Humble Mission - Peru 2001 and 2003

In 2001 and 2003, Dr. Jeanne Sengstock traveled to Lima, Peru with Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity (VOSH). There she, along with her husband Dennis and a team of other volunteer optometrists, gave eye examinations and glasses to poor people who could never afford them. The people of Peru are extremely impoverished, and according to Dr. Sengstock, “when we arrived at the hospital, there were lines of thousands of people going down the street and around the block, and they clapped and cheered when our bus pulled in. I was humbled at the honor they gave us and overwhelmed at the need of the people there.” In all, Dr. Sengstock and her team saw over 2600 patients, and fitted about 2200 pairs of eyeglasses for needy Peruvians.
